Is XKW Switch hackable? ›

Serials from XAJ70050000000 and up are patched and can't be modded. For serials beginning in XKW1, XKJ1, XJW1, and XWW1: All consoles released with these numbers are patched and can't be modded.

All serial numbers that begin with XJW1, XKJ1, XKW1 or XWW1 have the patch. All other serial number ranges depend on the numbers after the prefix. For serial numbers starting with XAW1: Anything above XAW10120000000 has the patch.

The prefix before the series of numbers indicates which variation of the Nintendo Switch you have, as follows: XAW: the original Nintendo Switch. XKW: the revised Nintendo Switch, with better battery life. XTW: the Nintendo Switch OLED model, which was released most recently. XJW: the Nintendo Switch Lite model.

You'll find the serial number at the bottom of your console, just below the USB-C port. It starts with “XAW” or “XKW” followed by several other numbers. If your Nintendo Switch has a serial number within any of these ranges, there's a higher chance that it is moddable.

So another way of verifying that it's the newer hardware model is by glancing at the serial number. If it starts with XKW, that's the new one. Anything else (such as XAW), and you're holding an original-release Switch. The serial number can be found on the bottom of the Switch console.

Serial numbers beginning with XAW have the shorter battery span ranging from about 2-6 hours. XKW is the next version with the larger battery life from around 4-9 hours. Again though, it depends on your settings as well.

Unless willing to hardmod, the XKW and XKJ will never be hackable and given current modchips require some hardcore skill in soldering because ayylmao micro solder points, you again are probably way better off just getting a v1 switch.

Not all Nintendo Switches can be hacked. Newer models, as well as Nintendo Switch Lite and OLED models, have been patched to prevent hacking. If you have one of these models, the only way to hack it is to disassemble it and install a mod chip, which is beyond the scope of this guide.
