School districts of Treasure Coast, Palm Beaches earn passing grades

The Florida Department of Education announced Wednesday the grades for school districts across the state.School districts in the Palm Beaches, the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County all had passing grades.In the 2023-2024 school year, Indian River and Palm Beach counties received A grades, Martin and St. Lucie counties earned B grades, while Okeechobee County School District secured a C grade.The School District of Palm Beach County was the only district in the region to secure a grade increase from 2023, as it improved from last year's B.“Today’s announcement underscores the dedication of Palm Beach County's families, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community members to educating, affirming and inspiring our students,” School District of Palm Beach County Superintendent Michael J. Burke said in a statement. “I’m especially proud of our students who put in the hard work to achieve this coveted ‘A’ rating. With the highest graduation rate among Florida’s largest urban school districts and an ‘A’ rating, Palm Beach County schools remain ‘Your Best Choice’ for students and families in Palm Beach County.”School districts of Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties maintained the same grade they had in 2023."We are thrilled to announce that the Department of Education announced district and school grades this morning, and the School District of Indian River County is once again an A district, now ranked No. 9 among the top 10 districts in the state of Florida," a spokesperson from the School District of Indian River County said. "An impressive 95% of our schools earned a grade of B or higher. Congratulations to our students, teachers, and staff members for their dedication and hard work."Superintendent of Indian River County Schools, David K. Moore stated, “I am so proud and appreciative of the work that each one of our team members has done to contribute to the outcomes! The outcomes are evidence of the high-quality teaching that is occurring in our classrooms across our district and the commitment by our team members to be in service of students."The Martin County School District noted in achieving a 'B' grade, most of the schools in the district either achieved an ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating.Martin County School District added it ranks 11th out of 67 school districts in the state and was within one percentage point of achieving an ‘A’ rating."The accountability rankings achieved by our district and individual schools this year are a testament to our collective hard work and dedication," said Martin County School District Superintendent Michael Maine in a statement. "While we narrowly missed an 'A,' the process has underscored both our strengths and areas for growth. This experience will propel us in our continued pursuit of reaching the top of Florida's accountability rankings."According to the Florida Department of Education, schools are graded A, B, C, D or F. Each school is graded based on the components for which it has sufficient data.
